Stymied datacentre projects threaten global AI revolution

Large-scale datacentre projects are being challenged or cancelled due to hurdles such as securing energy supply, high construction costs, and opposition from local community and environmental groups. This backlog poses problems for AI firms that need datacentres to train and operate their models. Approximately half of 250 global datacentre projects announced between 2021 and 2024 will either not happen or their completion will be delayed.
